What Is A
Compounding
Pharmacy?

Some pharmacies focus on compounding prescriptions.  This means that the pharmacist combines individual ingredients as determined by a medical practitioner into specific dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, creams, gels, lozenges and more.  Women's International Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy dedicated to using bioidentical hormones in compounded medications we prepare.

Compounding pharmacies formulate combinations which may include FDA-approved and/or pharmaceutical-grade substances into a custom medication, as specified by a prescription from a healthcare practitioner.

Quality control (documenting of procedures, verifying recipe calculations, and ingredients) is crucial when compounding medications.  As a compounding pharmacy, Women's International Pharmacy meets or exceeds standards for providing accurate compounded medications.

The healthcare practitioner can specify a prescription ideally suited to meeting a patient's individual hormonal needs when working with Women's International Pharmacy.  For example, Women's International Pharmacy can also combine multiple hormones into one compounded medication.  Other examples are preparing bioidentical hormone medications in different forms (e.g., capsules, gels, creams, lozenges, drops, etc.) or adding flavors (peppermint, orange, lemon or cherry) to make them more palatable.
